Most marketing decisions rely on intuition or industry “best practices.” But audiences differ. Context matters. The only way to know what works for your specific situation is to test.

Testing also prevents regression. Changes that feel like improvements might not be. Without measurement, you can’t distinguish upgrades from downgrades.

What to Test

Headlines deserve constant testing. They determine whether users read anything else. Year references, questions, emotional language: each variation might outperform or underperform depending on audience.

CTA button copy affects conversion directly. Generic text like “Get Started” rarely performs as well as specific, benefit-oriented copy like “Start Your Free Trial.”

Checkout flows present testing opportunities around payment options, step counts, and form fields. Adding PayPal has increased revenue 18% in documented cases. Small checkout changes compound into significant revenue differences.

Tools and Implementation

Vercel supports A/B testing through edge functions and feature flags. Dedicated tools like Optimizely, VWO, and Crazy Egg provide visual editors for non-technical test creation.

Email platforms typically include subject line testing built in. Send variant A to half of a segment, variant B to the other half, then roll out the winner to remaining subscribers.

Testing Discipline

Run at least one experiment weekly. The compound effects of continuous improvement far exceed occasional large changes. Each test teaches something about your audience regardless of outcome.

Wait for statistical significance before declaring winners. Premature conclusions based on early data lead to incorrect decisions. Let tests run until sample sizes support confident interpretation.

Acting on Results

Testing without implementation wastes effort. When tests identify winners, deploy them permanently. When tests reveal losers, stop using those variants even if they were previous defaults.

Document learnings for future reference. Patterns emerge across multiple tests that inform strategy beyond individual changes.
